Established in 1992 with a view to providing quality training in small groups Karen Barnes Dance is recognised for producing a high caliber of work.

Situated in Damansara Heights, Malaysia amidst beautiful flora & fauna, the students train in a holistic environment. The studios are light & airy overlooking the gardens which provide a conducive

learning environment.

The school provides a bespoke learning experience for each pupil ensuring everyone is dealt with as an individual.

In 2005 Princess Lailatul Shahreen Akashah of Perlis became our patron. Her Royal Highness has lent invaluable support to the school & its pupils.

Recent findings from brain sciences suggest that dance training promotes the growth of new brain cells, neurogenesis & neural plasticity. This promotes vital skills for learning with regard to focus, memory & cognitive flexibility. Current neuroscience provides compelling evidence that dance is an important medium in education.

Previous pupils have auditioned & been accepted by the world’s top schools including :

Continued Professional Development – CPD

Karen Barnes Dance fundamentally expects the highest standard of dance pedagogy. Thus it is essential that all staff pursue continued professional development (CPD) with commitment & dedication. Everyone on the team from the Principal to the teachers holds close the ethos of life long learning, they are constantly broadening their skills sets with higher qualifications & diverse subjects. The aim of the school is for each teacher to achieve at least 50 hours per year of CPD within dance or its related fields.

Our teachers are encouraged to pursue further teaching qualifications & broaden the scope of genres. Courses are conducted in studio with regard to music editing & effects, first aid & child welfare, also make-up, costume design & hair. Our Principal took Harvard courses in Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring & Leaders of Learning. She actively encourages her staff to reach their fullest potential while providing the necessary support to realise the outcome.
